Following recent changes to the practice nursing team, we would like to take this opportunity to update patients about the wide range of family planning services offered at the  practice. We are committed to providing a comprehensive local service to the community.

All GPs and practice nurses are able to offer general advice on male and female contraceptive choices. The practice has a wide range of patient information leaflets to support the advice given by clinicians. Patients may also request information directly from reception.

The practice provides an emergency contraception service. It is imperative that women in need of emergency contraception contact the surgery as soon as practically possible following unprotected sexual intercourse. In order to receive this service without delay, please clearly inform reception staff that this service is required so that our staff can offer the earliest possible appointment. This is also available from the local pharmacy for eligible women.

Dr Bethan Williams leads the service to provide contraceptive implants. Implants were previously called “Implanon” but were rebranded as “Nexplanon” a few years ago. Further information is available at the site below

To discuss insertion, replacement or removal of a contraceptive implant, please ask at reception for an appointment with Dr Williams.

The practice also provides a service to insert, remove and exchange intra-uterine contraceptive devices (known as “coils”). Several different types of coil are available each with different features so usually an appointment for advice and counselling is required prior to proceeding with the fitting of a coil. Please ask at reception for an appointment with Dr Kirsty Robinson to access coil services. Coils are normally fitted in a designated, monthly clinics but requests for coil insertion for emergency contraception will be accommodated where possible. Further information on some of the coils on offer is available from the sites below

For men wishing to consider a vasectomy as a method of contraception, the best GP to consult is Dr Charles Holt.

Condoms are available free of charge from reception or any member of the practice team – please just ask and we will be happy to provide this service. For patients with latex allergy, we are able to obtain latex-free condoms.

For those taking oral contracptive tablets, and annual pill review is recommended. In the absence of problems, this simple check can be performed by a member of our practice nursing team.
