Respiratory infections in children

As the weather cools and we head into Autumn, here at the practice we are beginning to receive an increasing number of enquiries about children with respiratory infections (coughs and colds). Due to Covid restrictions over the past 18 months, children have had less contact with others and therefore less exposure to the common childhood illnesses that they would usually encounter from social encounters. Most of the time, these illnesses can be safely managed at home by following simple care advice but occasionally children need to be assessed by a clinician as they are more seriously unwell causing parental / carer concern.
